The impacts of bad plumbing

02 August 2012

Some of the most common problems that we encounter in our homes have something to do with plumbing.  Leaking pipes and running toilets are all so common household issues. These are usually caused by the usual wear and tear on the parts used for plumbing. They would have to be replaced as part of the usual maintenance of our homes.

Sometimes however, the plumbing problem is not caused by the wearing out of the parts and materials in homes. There are times when it is caused by bad or defective plumbing. This happens when the design for the plumbing system is defective or, more commonly, when the installation is done in a wrong way or used defective or substandard materials. This can cause some very serious problems at home or any structure.

Impacts of Bad Plumbing- Bad plumbing can have some very serious effects. So you can realize how serious it is, here are some of its effects:

  • Mould is arguably one of the most serious effects that bad plumbing can bring to any home. It is a form of fungi which can grow in dark and humid places. That is the reason why it can start growing in parts of the house where there are leaks. They can release some particles into the air which can be very harmful to humans. They are the number one reason why leaking pipes or anything that causes moisture to accumulate in dark areas of the house ought to be taken care of right away.
  • Water damage resulting from leaks is a very real and serious threat. It can be a very gradual thing that can happen over a period of many weeks and months, or it can be a sudden thing like when a defective pipe suddenly bursts flooding the entire house. The fact remains that water damage can be very costly.
  • Bad plumbing can cause a tremendous amount of inconvenience. Clogged drains for example can be very disturbing and would require the help of professionals when it becomes so serious. Sometimes that can be the result of bad plumbing design.
  • Bad plumbing can also cause a great deal of waste. Each year a huge amount of water is wasted because of bad plumbing and that kind of waste is totally preventable. Running toilets and leaking pipes could be prevented from causing waste.

These are just some of the effects that can be caused by bad plumbing in our homes today.
